Evergreen Residents,
During the last Board Meeting, there was discussion regarding the condition of the common-area palm trees that line the streets throughout Evergreen.
As part of the Association’s ongoing maintenance program, American Landscape recently completed an assessment of these palm trees. According to their evaluation, approximately 75-80% of the palms show signs of being unhealthy or affected by Ganoderma, a disease that impacts palm trees throughout Florida. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for Ganoderma, and once a tree becomes infected, removal is the only option. Additionally, the disease remains in the soil after removal, making replanting palm trees inadvisable.
For those interested in learning more about Ganoderma, additional information is available through the University of Florida IFAS Extension:

As part of their assessment, American Landscape provided the Association with proposals for:
- Removal of all common-area palm trees;
- Trimming of all existing common-area palm trees; and
- Removal of dead or diseased palm trees require immediate attention.
Currently, Evergreen has approximately 869 common-area palm trees. Based on American Landscape’s assessment, 21 palms require immediate removal due to disease or decline. Any removed palms will have the entire tree and root ball excavated, followed by restoration of the area with filled dirt and sod.
The proposals provided to the Association were as follows:
Option 1 – Remove All Common-Area Palm Trees
- Total Cost: $104,240.00
Option 2 – Remove 21 Dead or Diseased Palm Trees and Trim Remaining Palms
- Removal of 21 palms with restoration: $7,030.00
- Trimming of remaining palms: $16,640.00
- Total Cost: $23,670.00
After careful discussion and consideration, the Board of Directors voted to proceed with Option 2, which includes the removal of the 21 dead or diseased palm trees and the trimming of the remaining common-area palms.
The contract was executed last Friday, and American Landscape is expected to begin work in early July.
This project is important for several reasons:
- It helps maintain the beauty and appearance of Evergreen.
- It supports the Association’s ongoing maintenance responsibilities.
- It addresses hazardous and declining trees before they become a larger issue.
- It helps prepare the community for the upcoming hurricane season by reducing potential storm-related risks.
The Board also encourages all residents to inspect and maintain their own landscaping to ensure properties remain safe, attractive, and hurricane ready.
The complete proposal and breakdown of costs from American Landscape is attached here for homeowner review. If you have any questions regarding this project, please feel free to contact the Board of Directors or Coastal Property Management.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
